Richard D. Balint

YOUNGSTOWN - Richard D. Balint, 88, of the city’s west side, passed away Thursday evening, May 12, 2016, at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, with his family by his side.

Richard was born March 26, 1928, in Youngstown, a son of the late Andrew and Katherine Stroney Balint, and was a lifelong area resident.

Rich was a graduate of The Rayen School, and after graduation went to barber school. After working briefly as a barber, he became the owner/operator of Plaza Pizza in Hermitage, Pa., where he remained active through 2015.  He also owned and operated Rich’s Pizza in Youngstown for a short time.

He enjoyed watching sports, telling a good joke or two, and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his unique sense of humor and for his strong work ethic.

Mr. Balint was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Youngstown. He also belonged to the St. George Croatian Lodge, No. 66, on Vestal Road in Youngstown.

Rich leaves his wife, Sara Christopher Balint, whom he married July 6, 1974; three sons, Andrew Balint of Placerville, Calif., Ronald (Patricia) Balint of Sarasota, Fla., and Daniel Osoro of Sharon, Pa.; a daughter, Helaine Osoro of Youngstown; a brother Rev. Edward (Betty Lou) Balint of Wooster; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Rich’s first wife, Florence Manda Balint, is deceased. A son, Richard M. Balint; a daughter, Cynthia Balint; and four brothers, William, Daniel, Robert, and Andrew Balint, also preceded him in death.

Family and friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Monday, May 16, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m.

Interment will follow at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in Rich’s name to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
