YOUNGSTOWN - Mary Miller, 87, of the city’s west side, passed away peacefully at her home, Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2016, surrounded by her children.

Mary was born June 5, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Alex and Mary Yuschak Bobersky, and was a lifelong area resident. Her father was one of the founding members of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church on North Belle Vista Avenue in Youngstown, and he aided in the construction of the church as well as the church’s Orthodox Center.

Mary graduated from Chaney High School in 1947 and met her future husband, Andrew J. Miller, at a church picnic. Her husband worked at U.S. Steel most of his life, until it closed, and then worked at General Motors in Lordstown. He and Mary were married for 48 years, until he passed away Nov. 15, 2000.

Mary worked at Wonder Bakery and at General Electric, Lamp Division, before raising her family. She dedicated her life to raising and caring for her five children, working in her garden, baking, and sewing. She sewed her children’s Halloween costumes and made Barbie Doll clothes for her daughters’ dolls.

Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Brendan Church and the church’s Altar & Rosary Society.

For most of her life, she loved riding her bicycle and said it felt as if she was flying. Mary and her sister, Ann, also went on daily evening walks together and afterwards sat on Mary’s front porch to discuss the day's events. Living only a few streets apart from one another, they were each other's best friend and kept in daily contact their entire lives. Mary and Ann were also avid yoga enthusiasts.

Mary enjoyed taking numerous camping road trips with her husband and children that included 40 states, Mexico, and Canada. Mary loved the open road and continued to travel throughout her life. She visited several Eastern and Western European countries with her daughters and her sister, including a visit to Ukraine where her father was born.

Mary was extremely proud of her five children, whom she leaves to cherish her memory, Maria Miller, Linda Miller, Noreen Maddox, and Andy (A.J.) Miller, each of California, and Patty Cappabianca of Youngstown. Mary also leaves five grandchildren, Andrew Miller, Brooke English, and Carli, Gia, and Giacamo Cappabianca; and her dear sister, Ann Bernard.

Besides her husband, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted Bobersky and Mike Kraiosky.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Family and friends may also gather from 9:30 to 10 a.m., Saturday, at St. Brendan Church, 2800 Oakwood Ave., Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband.

"Mothers are the heart of our lives, the keepers of our kindness." Her family will deeply miss Mary’s love and tender kindness, but will always keep her close in their hearts and alive in their memories.
