YOUNGSTOWN - Mary Rose Hrynda, of the city’s west side, passed away peacefully late Wednesday evening, March 15, 2017, at Park Vista, just three weeks shy of her 92nd birthday.

Mary Rose was born April 10, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Krzesaj Hrynda, and was a lifelong area resident.

She graduated from Chaney High School in 1955, and as a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, received the National Defense Service Medal.

In her younger days, she studied real estate and drafting at Penn-Ohio University, and was one of few females working in a male-dominated field. Mary also worked at Niles Steel Products, Coca-Cola Bottling, and sold Avon products for over 40 years.

She was a member of St. Brendan Church.

She enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, and gardening. Mary was proud of her Ukrainian/Polish heritage, and enjoyed making her favorite ethnic dishes, which included pierogies, “pigs-in-a-blanket,” kolachi, kielbasa and sauerkraut, and palachinki. She also loved working crossword puzzles and watching classic movies, her favorite being “The Ten Commandments.”

Mary leaves three nieces, Deborah Lee Hrynda-Havran (Geary Havran) of Tampa, Fla. Darlene Marie Hrynda of Lakewood, and Bonita Rose Hrynda of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and her friend and caregiver, Judy Wasylychyn, with whom she shared her home.

A brother, John N. Hrynda, and John’s wife, Helen, preceded Mary in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin on Saturday, March 25, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, and continue at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Brendan  Church, 2800 Oakwood Avenue, in Youngstown.

Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Mary will be laid to rest next to her mother.
