Maria Giammarco

STRUTHERS - Maria Giammarco, 88, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Hospice House in Poland, with her family by her side.

Maria was born June 14, 1927, in Introdacqua, Italy, a daughter of the late Vincenzo Giammarco and Elda Giammarco, and came to America and Youngstown in September of 1963. 

A talented seamstress, Maria worked at Birnbaum Dress Shop in Boardman in the alterations department for five years and as manager for 14 years. She also worked as a tailor at Harry’s Big & Tall Store, and at Cappelli Tailors, both in Boardman.

Maria was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. She was also a member of the Democratic Women’s Club of Ohio, AARP, and of the Holy Family Senior Citizens. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, traveling, and reading.

Maria leaves her twin sister, Annetta Carano of Struthers; her nephew, Joseph (Judy) Carano of Monteque, New Jersey; her great-nieces, Heather, Elaine, Angela, and Jessica; her great-nephews, Philip and Michael; her great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and her extended family members.

A brother, Corrado Giammarco and his wife, Margaret Giammarco; a brother-in-law, Joseph Carano; and a niece, Elda Carano Raybuck, preceded her in death.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home and will continue at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church on Fifth Street in Struthers. 

Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.
