AUSTINTOWN - Theresa F. Pennell, 90, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Sept. 4, 2016, at Hospice House, with her family by her side after a long and fulfilling life.

Theresa, who was affectionately known to her family as “Grandma,” was born May 15, 1926, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Mary Dolansky Karabin, and was a lifelong area resident.

Theresa was a graduate of Ursuline High School, and became a homemaker who dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family. Mrs. Pennell also worked for 40 years for Answer Phone, Inc., retiring at the age of 80.

Mrs. Pennell was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown, the Holy Name Senior Citizens and the Holy Name Altar & Rosary Society.

Theresa enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, playing bingo, baking kolachi and other delicacies, and most importantly, being with her family.

Theresa’s husband, Frank Pennell, whom she married April 13, 1944, passed away April 3, 1983.

Theresa leaves her daughter, Bonnie (Steve) Smith, with whom she shared her home; her son, Tim (Becky) Pennell of Austintown; seven grandchildren, Dennis Durrett Jr., Holly Durrett, Rachael Pennell, Katelyn (John) Warren, Amanda Pennell, Steven Smith, and Jordan Pennell; and five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Isaiah, James, Lydia, and Tessa.

Besides her husband, a daughter, Kathleen Pennell; a granddaughter, Heather Pennell; six brothers, Edward, Cyril, William, John, Joseph, and George Karabin; and four sisters, Marie Kenney, Helen Naple, Agnes Peel, and Margaret Merkich, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., today, Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the funeral home, and will continue at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 613 N. Lakeview Ave., Youngstown.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Theresa will be laid to rest next to her husband.
