Richard M. DeVito, Sr.

AUSTINTOWN - Richard M. DeVito, Sr., 73, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 24, 2016, at Omni Manor Nursing Center, following a brief illness.

Richard was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Youngstown, a son of the late Joseph and Kathryn Bahny DeVito, was a 1960 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, and was a lifelong area resident.

He served for two years in the U.S. Army, from 1964 to 1966, and worked for General Motors at the Lordstown plant for 36 years, retiring in 2006. Rich also worked for Youngstown Steel Door and for Passarelli Brothers Towing Service.

Mr. DeVito enjoyed yardwork, working on cars, target shooting, and working on home improvement projects with his son. A favorite pastime of his was going out to breakfast with family and friends. 

Rich leaves his wife of 47 years, Beverly Halas DeVito, whom he married Sept. 28, 1968; his son, Richard M. Jr. (Tina) DeVito of Columbiana; his daughter, Julie Ann (Andrew) Hornyak of Austintown; two grandsons, Deven and Vincent; and two sisters, Kathleen Goterba of Austintown and Mary Grace Hoffman of Ashtabula.

A brother, Michael DeVito, is deceased.

Per Rich’s request, there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at a later date.
