June 12, 1927 ~ June 20, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years OldAUSTINTOWN - Eila Jean Rodgers, 89, passed away peacefully late Monday afternoon, June 20, 2016, at Omni Manor Nursing Home, with her family by her side.
Eila, who was known to all as “Jean,” was born June 12, 1927, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Grace Murray Murphy, and was a lifelong area resident.
Jean was a graduate of South High School, and before marriage worked at Truscon Steel and for Strouss’ Department Store in downtown Youngstown. A wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker, Jean dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family, and she especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Rodgers was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown.
Her beloved husband, John R. Rodgers, whom she married Oct. 29, 1955, passed away Nov. 24, 1996.
Jean leaves two daughters, Patti Rodgers (Henry Conrad) of Boardman and Peggy Rodgers of Austintown; two grandchildren, Domenic Cannistra and Erin Cannistra; and a great-granddaughter, Eila Grace; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Besides her husband, three brothers, Edward, Patrick, and Paul Murphy, and two sisters, Ruth Vaughn and Grace Dougherty, preceded her in death.
Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, June 23, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Norquest Boulevard, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, where Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Arrangements were entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
