NILES - Edward A. “Bud” Kutsko, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016,  at his home, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Edward was born Feb. 9, 1930, in McDonald, a son of the late Andrew and Mary Tarkins Kutsko, and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Kutsko was a 1948 graduate of McDonald High School and was a United States Air Force veteran, serving as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War.

Ed earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University, and taught English at McDonald High School for 32 years.

Mr. Kutsko loved all sports, and he especially liked the Cleveland Browns. He was an excellent public speaker and had a great love for theater, Shakespeare, mythology, and shopping. Ed also sang in the St. Rose Church Choir.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Julie Geddes of Warren; his son, Doug Kutsko of Austin, Texas; and his granddaughter, Kerrigan Geddes.

A brother, Lawrence Kutsko, and two sisters, Carole Kunkel and Virginia Gaffey, preceded Ed in death.

Family and friends may call from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard, where funeral services will follow at 5:30 p.m.

Ed’s family thanks Dr. Francis, Dr. Barreiro, and Terrie Mellington for the excellent care provided. His family also offers special thanks to St. Joseph Cancer Center for all of the kindness, smiles, and compassion, which made a difficult journey bearable. Thanks also to Hospice of the Valley for guidance and care, which made a helpful difference.

In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family suggests memorial contributions take form of donations to either St. Joseph Cancer Center, or to Hospice of the Valley.
