YOUNGSTOWN - Edward J. Fajcak, 93, passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 2, 2017, at his home at Omni West Assisted Living, following a long and fulfilling life.
Edward was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Mary Schat Fajcak, and was a lifelong area resident
Mr. Fajcak was a graduate of South High School, and served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater, and was awarded five Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead. Self-employed for much of his life, Ed and his late wife owned and operated the Victory Tavern on Steel Street from 1945 until 1981, when they retired.
Mr. Fajcak was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown.
Ed was a lifelong fan of football, especially Notre Dame. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf, and more recently, he enjoyed the activities with his family and friends at Omni West.
His wife, Ann Serednesky Fajcak, whom he married May 25, 1957, passed away March 16, 1994.
Mr. Fajcak leaves his daughter, Deborah M. Fajcak of Mineral Ridge, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Besides his wife, four brothers, Michael and Stephen Fajcak, and Raymond and Joseph Fajack, and three sisters, Dorothy Gemma, Helen Fajcak, and Mary Martinko, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown. Family and friends may also call from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home, where funeral services will follow at noon.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, where Ed will be laid to rest next to his wife.
