GIRARD - David P. Blazina, 94, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at his home.

David was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Girard, a son of the late Michael and Mildred Mikuluti Blazina. He was a lifelong area resident, living in the original family home for all of his life.

He attended Girard High School, and helped support his family from a young age before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II and serving aboard the USS Waller. Upon his return home from the Navy, he worked as a blacksmith for U.S. Steel at the Ohio Works, retiring in 1981.

Mr. Blazina was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard, and in his younger days was a member of the Girard VFW.

David enjoyed gardening and giving his vegetables away. A sports fan, he enjoyed YSU football, and most of all, he loved his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He leaves a brother, Rudy Blazina of Girard; a sister, Agnes Schnarrs of Girard; many nieces and nephews; and many extended family members.

Four brothers, Joseph, Michael, Dr. Larry, and Matthew Blazina; and four sisters, Ann Piechock, Helen Straub, Barbara Horvatich, and Margaret, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, at Kinnick Funeral Home, McClurkin Memorial Chapel, where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m.

Committal services with military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20.

David’s family sends special thanks to the Youngstown VA Clinic, especially Drs. Long and Cordova, for the wonderful care provided to Mr. Blazina.
