BUFFALO, NEW YORK - William R. Scott, 74, died Thursday morning, March 14, 2024, at his brother’s home in Youngstown
William, who was affectionately known as Billy, was born July 20, 1949, in Youngstown, a son of the late Walter and Gladys "Tina" Scott.
He was a 1967 graduate of Youngstown East High School and courageously served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating his commitment to his nation with honor and valor. Upon his honorable discharge, Billy made Buffalo, New York his home, where he resided for the last 40 years.
Billy dedicated 25 years of service as a sergeant with the New York State Department of Corrections, a role he undertook with unwavering pride and dedication before retiring in 2013.
Outside of work, Billy found joy in a variety of activities. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, finding solace and freedom on the open road. Additionally, he had a passion for travel, exploring new destinations whenever he could. An enthusiastic sportsman, Billy enjoyed playing baseball with numerous teams, both locally and in New York, and he truly enjoyed playing golf. Most importantly, Billy enjoyed the time he spent with his beloved family.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Marissa (Ryan) Brinkman of Buffalo, NY; his two brothers, Al Scott (Maxine) of Buffalo and Pablo (Cynthia) Garcia of Youngstown and many nieces and nephews.
Five siblings, Harry Scott, Evelyn Shipman, Lois Scott, LaVonne Peterson and Marjorie Holland preceded Billy in death.
Family and friends may gather to celebrate Billy’s life from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
