Steve R. Shaffo

YOUNGSTOWN – Steve R. Shaffo, 92, of the city’s west side, passed away peacefully, early Sunday morning, April 10,2022, at Austinwoods Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Steve was born August 8,1929, in Youngstown, a son of the late Gabriel and Mary Lechman Shaffo and was a lifelong Youngstown west sider.

He retired from US Steel Corp Ohio Works.

Mr. Shaffo was a member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church.

Steve enjoyed racing homing pigeons and was a member of The Original Pigeon and the Youngstown and Warren Pigeon Clubs. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and greatly enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 49 years, Joanne Kassan Shaffo, whom he married June 2, 1972. A son, George (Judi) Lesnansky of Boardman; four grandchildren, Adam (Tiffany) Lesnansky, Alana, Stefan and Eden Lesnansky and two great grandchildren, Autumn and Adam.  

Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, eight siblings preceded Steve in death.

Per Steve’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
