Rose M. Svasta

CANFIELD - Rose M. Svasta, 92, formerly of Youngstown’s west side, passed away peacefully late Wednesday evening, Nov. 14, 2018, at Briarfield Manor after a long and fulfilling life.

Rose was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Campobasso, Italy, and was the daughter of the late Santo and Josephine Simonelli Cofelice. She came to this area with her family in 1927 as a small girl, and was raised in Struthers.

Before her marriage, Rose worked for Thornton Cleaners in downtown Youngstown as a hat blocker, and in 1951 she married her husband, Michael. The couple moved to Youngstown’s west side, had five children, and she dedicated the remainder of her life to raising and caring for her family.

Rose was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown.

Mrs. Svasta leaves four children, Michael J. Jr. (Peggy) Svasta, Joanne (Bob) Wilson, Paul (Katie) Svasta, and Jim (Ginny) Svasta; seven grandchildren, Terra, Laura, Carla, Bobby, Nicole, Jessica, and Elizabeth; 12 great-grandchildren, with another on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Rose’s husband of 50 years, Michael J. Svasta, whom she married Aug. 18, 1951, passed away Feb. 5, 2002. Along with her husband, Rose was preceded in death by a son, John Svasta, and three siblings, John Cofelice, Joan Cofelice, and Mary Zupko.

Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 19,  at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home, and will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 613 N. Lakeview Ave., Youngstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in Rose’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512.
