Nicholas Mamrich Obituary

AUSTINTOWN - Nicholas W. “Sonny” Mamrich, 77, passed away peacefully, Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2024, in the comfort of his home with family by his side.

Nicholas was born January 21, 1947, in Campbell, the son of the late Nick and Olga Bilon Mamrich and was a lifelong area resident.

Born and raised in Campbell, Sonny was a 1965 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. Following graduation, Sonny answered the call to serve his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, demonstrating his bravery and commitment to protecting his fellow citizens.

Sonny was a skilled machinist, working first for Youngstown Foundry and Machine, and later for Wean United until his well-deserved retirement in 2009. Yet, it was his contributions beyond the workplace that truly defined his legacy.

Mr. Mamrich was an active member of Holy Trinity and St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Churches and devoted his time and energy to various church activities. He volunteered tirelessly with the pyrohy project and the annual parish festivals years ago, embodying the spirit of service and community. For many years, he served as a councilman for St. Anne Parish and supervised the altar servers, leaving an indelible mark on the congregation he held dear.

Outside of his commitments to church and work, Sonny found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a green thumb and found solace in gardening, relished the tranquility of fishing, and took delight in the camaraderie of bowling. A dedicated bowler, Sonny frequented the lanes three days a week, participating in leagues and earning numerous tournament victories along the way.

Sonny cherished his family above everything else. He found profound happiness in their company, whether it was spending quality time together or embarking on adventures to amusement parks with his children and grandchildren. His love and devotion to his family were unwavering, leaving an enduring impact on each of their lives.

Sonny leaves to forever cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Elaine Tych Mamrich, whom he married November 11, 1972; his three children, Eileen (James) Ramunno of Boardman, Nicholas (Stephanie) Mamrich of Warren and Jonathan Mamrich of Youngstown; two grandchildren, Angeline, and Anthony Ramunno; his sister, Mary Ann Popovich of Poland, many extended family members and many, many friends.

Sonny will be remembered for his warm smile, his compassionate heart, and his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A brother-in-law, George Popovich preceded Sonny in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown where a prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m.
