Mavis Breetz Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN - Mavis Irene Breetz, 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Friday morning, June 18, 2021, at Liberty Health Care Center in Liberty Township.

Mavis was born Dec. 10, 1923, in Youngstown, and was a daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth McLaughlin Tharp. She was raised in Youngstown, was a graduate of East High School, and lived for 50 years in Campbell for returning to Youngstown.

Mrs. Breetz was a homemaker who devoted her life to raising and caring for her family. She was a Mahoning County Board of Elections poll worker for many years, and was an avid reader and enjoyed watching television.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Mavis leaves her son, Donald W. Jr. (Janet) Breetz of Youngstown; her daughter, Elizabeth S. (Andrew) Bennett of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Tiffany Bennett, Amanda Bennett, Joshua Breetz, and Jonah Breetz; and a great-granddaughter, Desiree.

Her husband, Donald W. Breetz Sr., whom she married in 1950, passed away in 2007. A son, David Breetz, and siblings, Velma Tharp, Donna Hall, John Tharp, William Tharp, Arta Grope, Betty Tharp, and Arthur Tharp, are also deceased.

There are no calling hours or services presently scheduled, but a memorial service will be planned for a later date. Please keep Mavis and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
