WARREN — Martin P. "Marty" Slifka, 71, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren.

Marty was born Aug. 13, 1954, in Warren, a son of the late John and Rose Marchese Slifka. He was raised in a home filled with love, joy, laughter and faith alongside his siblings.

A 1972 graduate of Liberty High School, Marty went on to work at Weatherbee, Commercial Shearing and later Macy's warehouse in North Jackson.

Marty was an avid sports enthusiast who found joy in every game, especially cheering for his beloved Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes. His passion for sports was a big part of his life and something he loved sharing with family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two sisters, Dolores (Jack) Sullivan of Liberty Township and Sue Pelyhes of Niles; his nephews, whom he adored, Bob (Janet) Sullivan of Columbus and Jim (Rachael) Sullivan of Philadelphia; and his great-nieces and nephews, Noah, Hannah, Lydia, Amelia, Enzo and Nora Sullivan. He is also survived by his former wife, Patty Badanjek.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael; and his brother-in-law, Ray Pelyhes.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard, where a funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m.

In honor of Marty's love of sports, those attending are encouraged to wear their favorite team attire.

Marty's family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Kupferberg at St. Joseph Hospital for his kindness and compassionate care.

Above all, Marty will be remembered for his warm heart, easy smile and the joy he brought to those around him. His love for family, faith and sports will live on in the memories of all who knew him.
