Maron M. Fares

YOUNGSTOWN - Maron M. Fares, 84, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 19, 2019, at The Assumption Village after a lengthy and courageous struggle with multiple sclerosis.

Maron was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Youngstown, a son of Sab and Lulu Thomas Fares, and he lived his life in this area.

He was a 1953 graduate of Wilson High School in Youngstown and attended Youngstown College for two years. He worked for many years in the grocery business, including a tenure as a manager and supervisor with the former Fazio’s store in Austintown. Mr. Fares retired in 1980 due to his illness.

Maron was a member of St. Maron Church on South Meridian Road, where he ran the church’s bingo games for 24 years.

He enjoyed playing cards, was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and he was a big fan of jazz music. Maron also enjoyed acting as a “financial advisor” to family and friends, and he was a true family man who loved the time he spent with his family.

Maron leaves his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Dorothy Cap Fares, whom he married April 14, 1956; three children, Sherri (Mitchell) Shopinsky of Boardman, Thomas (Heather) Fares of Richfield, and Vickie (Michael) Schoeffler of Union, Mich.; five grandchildren, Thomas Jr. (Jessica), Nicholas, James, Matthew, and Amanda; and two great-grandsons, Graham and Cole.

Six sisters, Rose Barkett, Mary Eckel, Mae Fares, Martha Howard, Dee Hanna, and Agnes Sovak, and three brothers, Buddy, James, and Thomas Fares, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 24, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Family and friends may also call from 9:30 to 10 a.m. on Monday, March 25, at St. Maron Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Committal services will follow the Mass, and will be at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Maron’s life at a mercy meal to be held at Antioch Hall at St. Maron Church following the committal service.
