Lucy G. Evans

May 1, 1927 ~ September 6, 2023 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Obituary

NORTH JACKSON- Lucia “Lucy” G. Evans, 96, passed away Wednesday evening, September 6, 2023, at her home.

Lucia, who was affectionately known as Lucy, was born May 1, 1927, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Antonio and Donangeline Paradisco Gentilcore, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1946 graduate of East High School and briefly worked at Hathaway Bakery in her younger days, before dedicating her adult life to raising and caring for her family.

Lucy enjoyed cooking and baking and was “famous” for her stuffed artichokes, and ricotta and rice pies at Easter time. She also enjoyed playing cards with her classmates in several card clubs but most of all, she enjoyed the time she spent with her family.

Although short in stature, Lucy had a big personality. She was a feisty and spunky lady and was never afraid to speak what was on her mind. Lucy was very proud to be driving until she was 90 and received her first speeding ticket ever, at age 89.

Mrs. Evans leaves to cherish her memory her son, Ken (Kathy) Evans, of Youngstown; her daughter, Donna (Dick) Slater of Youngstown; her granddaughter, Jacklyn (Alan) Podolsky of Rocky River; two step granddaughters, Denise (Jeff) Hogan and Danielle (Ray) Boggs; 6 step-great grandchildren, Raymond Boggs, Anthony Boggs, Joseph Boggs, Daniel Boggs, Adrienne Boggs, Jeffery Hogan and baby Adam Hogan “on the way.”

Lucy will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her husband of 51 years, Martin L. Evans, whom she married April 10, 1948, passed away November 25, 1999.

Two sisters, Mary Evans and Carmel Rehak and two brothers, Mickey Gentilcore and Joseph Gentilcore also preceded Lucy in death.

Family and friends may call from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown where a funeral service will take place at 3 p.m.

Private interment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown, where Lucy will be laid to rest beside her husband.

Lucy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to the hospice nurses for their kindness and the compassionate care given to Lucy.

In lieu of flowers, Lucy’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley in Lucy’s memory.
