James Maderitz Obituary

FT. MYERS, FLA. - James Maderitz, 90, formerly of Girard, passed away Tuesday evening, Oct. 2, 2018, at HealthPark Medical Center in Ft. Myers following a brief illness.

Jim was born May 5, 1928, in Youngstown, a son of the late Anthony and Cecelia Ruggiero Maderitz, and lived in this area for most of his life. He lived the past 10 years in Florida.

He attended St. Rose Elementary School and graduated from Girard High School.

Jim had an active and varied work career. He worked at Ohio Leather Works as a stationary engineer, and he owned and operated Saltone’s Pizza & Dairy Isle in Girard. He also owned and operated B&J Home Improvement, installing siding, windows, and doors. In 1975, Jim went to work for StanJim Homes as a construction supervisor and continued in that position for almost 22 years as the company became Joe Koch Construction. He retired in 2009.

Mr. Maderitz is a member of St. Rose Church in Girard.

Jim liked gardening, and was proud to be able to grow beautiful orchids in the Florida sunshine. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, and loved giving his sons advice on how to run their business.

He leaves to cherish his memory five children, James (Jane) Maderitz of McDonald, Linda (Tim) Mazzella of Girard, Debbie Maderitz of Youngstown, Timothy Maderitz of Girard, and Samuel (Michele) Maderitz of Girard; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

He will be truly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim’s wife of 50 years, Wilma Rose Sabino Maderitz, whom he married May 8, 1948, passed away July 31, 1998.

Besides his wife, a brother, John Maderitz, preceded Jim in death.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 8, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard, where funeral services will take place at 10 a.m.

Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Jim will be laid to rest next to his wife.
