NILES - Gerald Montgomery, 81, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 19, 2022 at his home following a three year battle with dementia.
Gerald, who was affectionately known as “Frogger” to his friends and co-workers, was born April 15, 1941 in Frostburg, MD., the son of the late Edwin and Geraldine Wilt Montgomery and was raised by his mom and step-dad, Elmer “Elsie” Lewis.
He proudly served in the National Guard in Frostburg for two years and also served in the Army for six months, stationed in Fort Dix, NJ.
Gerald began his career at Fisher Body Euclid and later transferred to General Motors Lordstown where he worked for 35 years as a die setter, retiring in 2008 with 38 years seniority.
Mr. Montgomery was a car enthusiast, and he greatly enjoyed taking his 2004 Monte Carlo, Dale Earnhardt Jr., edition, to car shows across the valley.
He leaves to cherish his memory, four children, Jerry, Teresa (Bill) VanDyke, Jason (Kim) Montgomery, and Bret Montgomery; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his sister, Connie (Don) Martin and many extended family members and friends.
Frogger will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, a brother, Robert Lewis, preceded Gerald in death.
Per Gerald’s request, there will be no calling hours or services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Girard.
