YOUNGSTOWN - Donna Marie Adams,73, passed away Thursday evening, April 28, 2022 at Omni Manor Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Donna was born April 24, 1949 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Frank R. and Yolanda “Dolly” Abate Banasiewicz and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1967 graduate of Struthers High School, and worked at Dollar Bank in Struthers for several years, until the birth of her daughter, Christina whom she welcomed on February 25, 1974, the same day her sister, Pam, welcomed her daughter Cheryl.
A dedicated and excellent homemaker, Donna loved to bake, cook and plan parties. She and her sister shared in hosting many birthday parties, holiday parties, anniversary dinners and special family events throughout the years, always amazing their families.
In August of 1955, Donna was afflicted with a relatively new disease called polio. Because of her illness, she was featured in the “GF” News Christmas Edition. Her uncle, Jim Abate, who worked at GF organized a campaign for donations to be made to the March of Dimes in Donna’s name, to help Donna and others fight the disease.
Despite many physical challenges caused by polio, and an auto accident, Donna always wore a smile and met every challenge with a positive attitude.
Donna was very crafty and creative, she enjoyed sewing, crafting and developed a love of painting during her stay at Briarfield at Ashley Circle. She won several ribbons for her paintings at both the Canfield Fair and the YMCA.
Donna’s greatest love was her family and she loved her children, grandchildren , and her great-grandson unconditionally. She always looked forward to their visits and video calls.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Christina (Patrick) Gilliam of Apex, N.C.; her son, Eric J. (Blake) Adams of Tampa, FL.; two granddaughters, Ashley (Casey) Kuzmik and Brianna (Aaron) Bostic, who where her life; a great-grandson Cooper Kuzmik; her sister Pamela Planey of Struthers; her brother Rick (Cyndi) Banasiewicz of Ocean Isle, N.C.; nephews, Bob Planey, Jason Banasiewicz and Justin Banasiewicz; a niece, Cheryl DeLisio and many extended family members.
Donna will always have a special place in her sister Pam’s heart, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, grandparents, Julia Abate, and Ignacy and Josephine Banasiewicz preceded Donna in death.
Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a celebration of life service will be held at noon.
A celebration of Donna’s life will also be held by her daughter, in North Carolina, at a later date.
