Donald R. Bernat, Jr.

ALLIANCE - Donald R. Bernat Jr., 61, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, Aug. 11, 2017, at Alliance Community Hospital.

Donald was born Aug. 24, 1955, in Youngstown, and was a son of the late Dr. Donald R. Sr. and Millicent Pugh Bernat. He was a 1973 graduate of Chaney High School and lived in Connecticut for much of his adult life, returning to Ohio in 2013.
                        
Don worked as a Welding Foreman for the Electric Boat Company in Connecticut, and most recently he taught welding at New Castle School of Trades in New Castle, Pa.

Don loved his children and grandchildren; anything to do with baseball, including umpiring; and fly-fishing.  He was a huge New York Yankee and New York Giants fan.

Don leaves his wife Peggy L. Pitzer Bernat of Connecticut; two daughters, Elizabeth (Ben) Abram and Amy Bernat; his son, D.J. Bernat (Ashley Purvis); three grandchildren, Connor, Meghan, and Cole Abram; four brothers, Arnold J. (Raida) Bernat of Martinez, Ga., David M. (Kathleen) Bernat of Canfield, Peter E. (Donna Wood) Bernat of Youngstown, and Robert E. (Mary Kay) Bernat of Canfield; three sisters, Cheryl L. Durkin of Youngstown, Susan L. (Jamie) Mickler of Struthers, Christine E. O’Hara of Austintown; a favorite cousin, Tarick; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Don’s family will have a private Celebration of Life at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
