Christopher Jay Jones

AUSTINTOWN - Christopher Jay “Chris” Jones, 51, passed away early Thursday evening, June 10, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital from complications of Covid-19.

Chris was born Nov. 21, 1969, in Youngstown, and was a son of Charles E. Jones, I and Patricia J. Sharpe Jones. He was a 1988 graduate of Chaney High School and lived his life in this area.

Mr. Jones worked at the North East Ohio Correctional Center and was a correctional officer for the past two-and-a-half years. In his younger days, he worked for many years for the Carter Lumber Company.

Chris loved sports. He had been a youth football coach since 1988, when he coached the West Side Patriots football team, which he did until 1994. From 2001 until 2018, he coached the Austintown Colts football team. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and will also be forever known and remembered as “THE Browns fan.”

He enjoyed supporting his son and his fiancé’s children in their sporting events and school activities, and working his skills as a “master chef” in both his kitchen and on the grill.

Chris leaves his son, Lukas C. Jones, at home; his fiancé, Andrea Correia, with whom he shared his home; his fiancé’s children, Kyle F. Correia of Boardman, Dylan M. Correia of Austintown, and Caitlin R. (Corey) Karabin of Norfolk, Va.; his mother, Patricia Jones of Youngstown; three brothers, Jeffrey (Kelly) Jones of Youngstown, Charles E, Jones II of New Port Richey, Fla., and David A. Jones of Youngstown; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Gary Bellish of Youngstown.

His father is deceased.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for a celebration of Chris’s life which will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd. in Youngstown. In celebration of Chris, all attending are “required” to dress casually and to wear the sports apparel of their favorite team. After the conclusion of the celebration at the funeral home, all are encouraged to head to Chris and Andrea’s house where the celebration will continue with a “tailgate” party at 8 p.m.
