Bernadette Melnick

POLAND — Bernadette Melnick, 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Hampton Woods Nursing Center.

Bernadette, affectionately known as “Bernie,” was born May 23, 1931, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Gondol Ganofsky, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1949 graduate of Chaney High School and dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family. Bernie also worked outside the home at Postal Church Envelope as a customer service representative for many years until her retirement.

Bernadette was a member of St. Charles Church.

She enjoyed sewing quilts, baking, listening to audio books and music, and attending church services. Most of all, she loved being around her family.

Bernie was the most loving and caring person and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Bernie leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Diane Melnick; two grandchildren, Frankie (Jessica) Donnadio and Karissa (Jeffrey) Braun; her great-grandson, Lucas; two sisters, Dolores “Dee” Horne and Phyllis Popovich; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Per Bernie’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A private committal service will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

Bernie’s family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Hampton Woods, who took such wonderful care of her over the last several years, and a thank you to the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Valley, who made her last few weeks as peaceful as possible. Her family is truly grateful for all your kindness and compassion.
