AUSTINTOWN - Wilma Jean Goldsmith, 88, passed away early Saturday morning, May 18, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital with her family by her side.
Wilma was born December 30, 1935, in Morgantown, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Arthur Hildreth and Virginia Mae Hildreth. After her marriage, she moved to the Youngstown area, where she built a life filled with love and dedication.
She worked at General Electric Youngstown Coil Plant for many years before retiring, but her most important job was caring for her family. Wilma excelled at whatever she put her mind to. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Wilma found her greatest joy in her family and cherished every moment spent with them.
Mrs. Goldsmith was an active member of Boardman Baptist Church, where she played a significant role in organizing church fundraisers. She generously volunteered her time teaching vacation Bible school and was a dedicated member of the Women's Group.
Wilma was a remarkably talented and gifted woman. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitch, knitting, crocheting, and making ceramics. Over the years, she shared her expertise by teaching others the fundamentals of these crafts, fostering a sense of community and creativity.
Family was at the heart of Wilma's life. She delighted in tracing her family roots back to the 1700s and valued every moment with her loved ones. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire those she left behind.
Wilma is survived by her beloved daughter, Donna (Michael) Smaldino of Youngstown; her three grandchildren, Jason Wayne (Kim) Smaldino, Joseph Michael (Amanda) Smaldino, and Jessica Blakeman; 10 great grandchildren, Cassidy, Lauren Grace, Vallie Marie, Kadin, Giovanni, Ava, Weston, Lena Mae, Brynn Kennedy, and Nora Julia; nine nieces and nephews, whom she adored.
Wilma will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her husband of 48 years, Wayne E. Goldsmith, whom she married on February 20, 1960, passed away on February 8, 2009. Her sister, Mary Elizabeth Cunningham, also preceded Wilma in death.
