William Gulfo

YOUNGSTOWN - William “Bill” D. Gulfo, 74, of the city’s west side, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, April 28, 2026, at his home.

Bill was born Jan. 26, 1952, in Youngstown, a son of the late Louis Anthony and Anne Marie (German) Gulfo, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1970 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and was employed with Allied Erecting and Dismantling for many years, retiring in 2016.

Bill found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, watching birds and spending time crafting, often creating beautiful wooden birds and birdhouses by hand. A talented handyman, there was very little he couldn’t fix or build. His skill and dedication were evident throughout his home, where he personally remodeled several rooms — right down to the cabinetry.

He was also an avid bocce player and a familiar face in many local leagues, including those at St. Anthony Parish and the Pacentrano Club, where he enjoyed both the game and the camaraderie it brought.

Bill leaves to forever cherish his memory his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Jo Ellen Golke Gulfo, whom he married May 22, 1971; his daughter, Cheri (Ivan) Hidy of Mount Sterling; his two sons, William Gulfo Jr. of Youngstown and Donnie Gulfo of Youngstown; his two grandchildren, Levi and Livya Hidy; his brother, Anthony (Nancy) Gulfo of Youngstown; his three sisters, Michele (Ken) Hoover of Canfield, Susan (Mike) Shaffer of Madison and Kathleen (James) Gennock of Utah; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Gulfo.

Private services will be held for the family at Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown. The family appreciates your understanding as they gather in a more personal way during this tender time.
