Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN - William Andrew "Bill" Evans Jr., 73, responded to God's call to Heaven, leaving this earthly life early Friday evening, Dec. 7, 2018, from his home following a two-year battle with cancer.

William was born July 25, 1945, in Youngstown, a son of Herman and Katherine Bonam, and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, William Evans Sr.

Bill was a 1964 graduate of South High School, and in 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served for two years as a radioman aboard the Mauna Loa in the waters off the coast of Vietnam, and later served in the U.S. Naval Reserves until 1971.

Mr. Evans worked for 37 years for General Motors at the Lordstown Plant, retiring in 2007.

One of Bill's greatest thrills in life was coaching girls' softball in the Mill Creek Park leagues, where he coached for 15 years, enjoying every minute. He also loved playing golf, especially on league teams with his great friend, Paul Bates, and he liked to bowl in various leagues. Bill loved being outdoors and doing things to spruce up his home. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

He was a proud member of Bethel Assembly of God, where he learned to "walk by faith" through his life. He dearly loved his church family, who faithfully prayed for him during his cancer battle, and he was proud to have been baptized on Nov. 20, 2016.

His wife of nearly 39 years, Donna J. Horney Evans, whom he married Aug. 22, 1966, passed away Aug. 16, 2005.

Bill leaves to cherish wonderful memories of him, his two daughters, Linda (Christopher) Snyder of Mineral Ridge and Carrie Evans of Poland; an "adopted daughter," Leslie Park of Butler, Pa.; his fiancé, Kay Clark, with whom he shared his life and home, and Kay's family, who loved him dearly; two step-grandchildren, Jared and Marissa Snyder; and a sister, Karyl (Bob) Aerford of Washington, Pa. He will also be missed by his two dogs, Toby and Bonnie.

Besides his wife, two sisters, Delores Stein and Janet Fynes; a brother, Norman Bonam; and a brother-in-law, Joe Horne, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow the services at the funeral home, and will be at Ellsworth Cemetery.

Bill's family thanks the staff with the Hope Center for the impeccable care he received during his cancer fight, especially Dr. Amy Awaida. His family expresses appreciation to all the nurses in the Infusion Center, and to the staff with MVI Health Care and Hospice during his journey home.

Mr. Evans' family suggests anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution do so by donating in Bill's name to the Bethel Assembly of God, 3807 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, OH 44515.
