YOUNGSTOWN - William A. Balint, 89, of the city's west side, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, Nov. 29, 2015, at his home.
William was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Youngstown, a son of the late Andrew and Katherine Stroney Balint, and was a lifelong area resident.
Bill attended The Rayen School and subsequently served in the United States Army during the end of World War II.
Bill worked as a mechanic for Mahoning County, repairing county vehicles for 30 years before retiring in 1989. He will always be remembered for his kind heart and his willingness to help anyone in need, especially offering advice and repairing their cars.
Mr. Balint was a lifelong and faithful member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as trustee and participated in many parish functions and activities. He will be truly missed by the congregation and by all who knew and loved him.
Bill is survived by two brothers, Richard (Sara) Balint of Youngstown and Rev. Edward (Betty Lou) Balint of Wooster; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
His wife, Rose DiMuzio Gerchok, whom he married October 12, 1974, passed away Jan. 8, 1993. Three brothers, Daniel, Robert, and Andrew Balint, also preceded him in death.
Family and friends may gather from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 3, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
In lieu of flowers, Bill's family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
