AUSTINTOWN – Walter Krut, 87, passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 3, 2015, at Hospice House, with his family by his side.
Walter, who was affectionately known as "Loggo" and "Papa," was born March 9, 1928, in Campbell, a son of the late Nicholas and Anna Swiderski Krut, and was a lifelong area resident.
He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II, and worked for Youngstown Building Materials and more recently, for the Mill Creek Metro Parks, from where he retired. A Mahoning County Sheriff Reserve Deputy, Mr. Krut was also an active businessman, owning and operating Papa's Sports Club on Poland Avenue in Youngstown, D&D Auto Parts in Youngstown, and Town Auto Parts in New Middletown. From 1994 til 2009, he managed the Golfer's Delight Snack Bar at the Mill Creek Park Golf Course.
Papa enjoyed bowling, golfing, and cooking. He loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports throughout the years.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, Antoinette Toto Krut, who is affectionately known as "Toni" and "Mamu," whom he married June 30, 1951; two daughters, Debbie (Robert) Stouffer of Lowellville and Diana Krut of Marshall, Va.; two grandchildren, Steven (Sarah) Pinciaro and Gina Stouffer; two great-grandchildren, Landen Russell and Aleena Pinciaro; a brother, Nicholas (Agnes) Krut of Campbell; a sister, Ann Latone of Austintown; and many nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Henry, John, and Steve Krut, and three sisters, Stella Metcalf, Olga English, and Katherine Dempsey, preceded him in death.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m, Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Walt's family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406; or to The Hope Center for Cancer Care, 835 Southwestern Run, Youngstown, OH 44514.
