Therese A. Elko

AUSTINTOWN - Therese A. Elko, 78, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, July 18, 2026, in the comfort of her home with her family by her side.

Therese was born Oct. 19, 1947, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Claude and Betty Abbott Bowman, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1965 graduate of The Rayen School and dedicated her life to her family.

Therese was a member of St. Blaise Parish, St. Joseph Church in Austintown. She enjoyed sewing and reading, and she especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Therese will always be remembered as the neighborhood mom who truly cared for others.

Therese leaves to forever cherish her memory her husband of 56 years, John R. Elko, whom she married April 25, 1970; her daughter, Mary (Larry) Melago of North Lima; her three grandsons, James Moore, John Moore and Lawrence Melago; her siblings, Barbara, Marianne, Phyllis, Robert and Helen; and many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Therese was preceded in death by her son, John Elko Jr.; her sister, Claudia; and her brother, Donald.

Private family services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, St. Charles Church.

Private interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, where Therese will be laid to rest beside her son.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
