AUSTINTOWN - Stephen J. Krall III, 76, formerly of Youngstown and Salem, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Briarfield at Ashley Circle, following a lengthy illness.
Stephen was born July 30, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of the late Stephen Krall Jr. and Carmel Conti Krall and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1965 graduate of Chaney High School and Choffin Career Center, where he learned skills in auto mechanics. Following graduation, Steve proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
Following his military service, Steve embarked on a successful career as an electrician, retiring from Ohio Edison, now First Energy.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Steve had a vibrant array of interests that enriched his life. He had a passion for music and was an accomplished guitarist who found joy in attending concerts. Some of the concerts he attended included Peter White, Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Springsteen. Steve Miller Band, Judy Collins, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Barry Manilow, and Bruce Springsteen.
A lifelong learner, he was an avid reader who enjoyed delving into various subjects. Steve's curiosity extended to technology, and he found fulfillment in understanding the intricate workings of computers and researching historical events and other subjects. He was a member of Vince Lisi's Book Discussion Group, where he eagerly engaged in weekly discussions about literature.
Steve was an avid football fan and cheered for the Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed traveling which took him to destinations such as Arizona, the Grand Canyon, Memphis, Niagara Falls, Florida, Michigan, Las Vegas, and upstate New York. Steve was also an avid motorcyclist and cherished the camaraderie of riding his Gold Wing motorcycle with local rider's groups.
Steve is survived by his son, Stephen D. (Lisa) Krall of Youngstown; his stepdaughter, April (Joseph) Maro of Boardman; four grandchildren, Brandon, Gage, and Skyla Krall, and Adrienne Maro, and his cousin, Lori Swartz of Hubbard, who was like a sister to him.
Besides his parents, his sister, Laurene Krall preceded him in death.
Family and friends may gather to pay respects from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 1 p.m.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
