YOUNGSTOWN - Shukriyyah Abdul Salaam, 79, died Monday, May 20, 2024, at Aventura at Assumption Village following an extended illness.
Shukriyyah was born April 23, 1945, in Columbus, a daughter of the late Albert Lindsey and Dorothy Jane Burton. She was a graduate of East High School in Columbus and dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family.
Shukriyyah enjoyed cooking and baking, and she was a skilled seamstress who designed her own clothes. She also enjoyed walking and participated in the Columbus Marathon as a walker at age 60. Additionally, she devoted her time as a CASA volunteer.
Shukriyyah is survived by her husband of 36 years, Elus Abdul Salaam, whom she married October 15, 1988; her son, David (Sharon) Sabree; two stepdaughters, Rashidah (Derrick) Lovick and Fareedah (Dante) Goodwin Capers; many grandchildren; a half-brother, Emil (Vickie) Bashir, and many extended family members.
Services were held Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Masjid Al-Kahir. Burial took place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
