IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald M.
Preksta
March 4, 1944 – June 16, 2025
HINSDALE, Ill, - Ronald Michael Preksta, 81, formerly of Youngstown's West Side, passed away peacefully Monday evening, June 16, 2025, in the comfort of his home.
Ronald was born March 4, 1944, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Anastasia "Sadie" Wolsonovich Preksta. He was a graduate of Chaney High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the Army Commendation Medal for his service.
Following his military service, Ron attended Kent State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He spent much of his professional life working as an industrial designer for RTC Design, and continued sharing his artistic talents as a freelance artist for several years after his retirement.
A former member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown, Ron served as an altar boy in his youth and carried his faith with him throughout life.
Ron was a gifted artist with a keen eye for design and a remarkable ability to create. He was mechanically inclined and preferred to build or fix things himself rather than purchase them. Whether it was his deep laugh, his infectious smile, or his youthful outlook, Ron left an impression on everyone he met. He was generous to a fault, known for giving thoughtful gifts and always being willing to lend a helping hand. He had a special love for cars — especially Ford Mustangs — and during his years in Chicago, enjoyed exploring the city in his Jeep.
Ronald is survived by his sister, Patricia Gergel of Youngstown; his brother, John Preksta of Dearborn, Mich., who lovingly cared for Ron in his final days; as well as his nieces and nephews, Greg Gergel, Doug Gergel, Patricia Gergel, Debbie Aloia, Joe Shorokey, Laurie Stare and Christine Shorokey. Ron also leaves behind several great-nieces and great-nephews and countless friends who will miss his kindness and light.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Shorokey- Brunetti.
Ron's family will always remember his creativity, his compassion, and the joy he brought into their lives and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the funeral home and continue with a funeral service which will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 526 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown.
A committal service with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Ronald will be laid to rest beside his parents.
In lieu of flowers, Ron's family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
