Robert M. Nemcik

AUSTINTOWN – Robert M. “Chicko” Nemcik, 87, passed away peacefully Friday evening, July 24, 2026, at Victoria House at Ashley Circle, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Robert was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Anne Nadzam Nemcik, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1956 graduate of Chaney High School, where he was a standout basketball player and a member of the All-City Basketball Team.

Chicko proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Ulm, Germany.

He devoted 47 years of his career to Youngstown Steel Door, where he worked as a machinist until his retirement. He also enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of the Youngstown Steel Door Golf League.

A devoted man of faith, Chicko was a member of St. Blaise Parish, St. Joseph Church. He was also a proud member of the Catholic War Veterans John J. Buckley Post, the Saxon Club and its bocce league.

Chicko embraced life with an infectious spirit and a genuine love for people. He never met a stranger and treasured every opportunity to visit with family, friends and those he met along the way. Whether he was relaxing on his back porch with a cold beer and a stogie, listening to Del Sinchak polkas, working puzzles or playing bingo with his great-grandchildren, he found joy in life's simple pleasures. He also had a well-known sweet tooth for donuts, a treat he loved sharing with others.

He was deeply devoted to his faith, his family and his country, and he took great pride in his Slovak heritage. Known for his kindness, generosity and countless random acts of kindness, Chicko was the life of every gathering and a true class act. Above all, he was a loving husband, proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose greatest joy came from the time he spent with those he loved.

One of his family's favorite memories was the unforgettable cross-country adventure he took in 1976, when he packed his family of six into their Winnebago and spent his entire 13-week vacation exploring the country together.

Robert leaves to forever cherish his memory his beloved wife of 63 years, the former Dorothy Mikula, whom he married July 20, 1963; his daughter, Linda (Dr. Ashok) Aggarwal of Howland; his three sons, Robert (Maria) Nemcik of Liberty Township, Gary (Holly) Nemcik of Westerville and Dr. Mike (Kami) Nemcik of Powell; many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Elaine Nemcik of Canfield; and many extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Samantha Nemcik; and his brother, John Nemcik.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at St. Blaise Parish, St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Rd., Austintown. All are welcome to attend.

A committal service with military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, 945 Boardman-Canfield Rd., Unit 12, Boardman, OH 44512.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Affinity Hospice; Cornerstone Veteran's Care; the Carl Nunziato Veterans Clinic; Victoria House at Ashley Circle; Dr. Glenn Novak; nurse Taylor; caregivers Nancy, Brenda, Laura and Marla; and the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission for the compassionate care, kindness and unwavering support they provided throughout the years.
