CANFIELD - Richard G. "Dick" Porter, 89, passed away Tuesday morning, January 30, 2024, at Hospice House following a brief illness.

Richard was born May 18, 1934, in Youngstown, a son of the late Leonard R. and Jessie A. Haddle Porter and was a lifelong area resident.

He worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company and Youngstown Thermal Ltd. before he retired.

Dick proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957.

He was a car enthusiast, and his proudest accomplishment was rebuilding his 1958 Corvette by himself. Most of all, Dick enjoyed sharing his life with his family.

Richard leaves to forever cherish his memory his wife of nearly 60 years, Janet Scarsella Porter whom he married June 27, 1964; his three daughters, Lee Ann Porter of Canfield, Kellie Betsa of North Jackson and Becky (Joe) Liguori of Canfield; 11 grandchildren, Brittany Hardy, Kyle Betsa, Devin Betsa, Jianna Betsa, Krysta Mills, Kayla Mills, Dylan Mills (fiancee Megan), Brian Paloci, Tori Paloci, Kristen (Brett) Falhaber and Joe Liguori; four great-grandchildren, Mariah, Jacob, Emily and Carmella and one on the way; four brothers, William (Barbara) LaRosa, James (Carmen) LaRosa, Edward (Shelly) LaRosa and Robert LaRosa; his brother-in-law, Gary (Marge) Scarsella; his sister-in-law, Betty Scarsella and many extended family members.

Richard was a father figure to many and loved by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed.

Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Porter Mills, his son-in-law, Frank Betsa, his stepfather, John LaRosa, his sister-in-law, Rusile LaRosa, four sisters, Betty Wiesen, Dorothy Razo, infants Loretta and Ethel and three brothers-in-law, Donald Wiesen, Paul Razo, and Joseph Scarsella.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Dick's family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley 979 Tibbetts Wick Road Suite A, Girard, Ohio 44420.
