OVIEDO, FLORIDA - Richard D. Evans, 79, formerly of Youngstown, passed away January 30, 2024.
Richard was born May 10, 1944, in Youngstown, a son of the late Clarence Evans and Margaret Welsh Evans. Richard was raised in Youngstown. He was a proud graduate of South High School, class of 1964. Richard cherished his Youngstown roots. He made it a point to return every year to celebrate his mother's birthday and visit his favorite local spots, including Mill Creek Park and the Canfield Fair.
Richard served in the United States Navy for four years, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. It was there that he met his future wife, Margo Evans. The two were married on July 26, 1968, and shared nearly 56 years of marriage, raising two daughters in a home filled with love and cherished memories.
He pursued higher education at Tampa Technology Institute, earning associate degrees in electronic technologies and computer technology in 1970. Richard continued his education at Barry University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1990.
Richard's career began as a laser engineer at Pratt Whitney, now United Technologies, where he worked for 10 years until the company relocated to California. He then took a position at Rexall Vitamin Corporation, serving as the head of maintenance for all buildings at their Florida facility until his retirement in 2012.
Richard leaves to forever cherish his memory his beloved wife of 56 years , Margo; his two daughters, Kim (Matt) Walsh of Oviedo and Jenny (Jon) Cone of Orlando; his three grandchildren who brought great joy to his life, Cameron, Noah and Sadie; his sister, Carol Martin of Austintown and many nieces and nephews.
Richard will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, three brothers, Robert Smith, Thomas Smith and Myron Smith and a sister, Linda Kohn preceded Richard in death.
A service was held on February 25, 2024, at Baldwin-Fairchild Oviedo Funeral Home, and Richard was laid to rest with military honors at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Orlando.
A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held for family and friends in Youngstown on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rachel's Restaurant, 54 Westchester Dr., Austintown.
