Obituary

CANFIELD - Raymond Winfield Hartman, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2 at the age of 97, following a courageous battle with cancer. Raymond was born February 12, 1927, in Youngstown, a son of the late William and Sara Hartman. He was a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and later inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame as the 15th member of the Sixth Class.

He served his country proudly during WWII in Germany as a 1st Sergeant of the United States Army's 42nd Constabulary Squadron. and later went on to a successful career as a phone technician, retiring after 44 years with Ohio Bell.

Raymond lived a life filled with adventure and love. He was a man of many passions, including gardening and woodworking. His love for God and his family compelled him to never give up. He was also a devout member of his community and donated generously to various causes.

He leaves to forever cherish his memory his four sons, Brad (Janet) Hartman of Austintown, Brian (Tammy) Hartman of Austintown, Barry (Judy) Hartman of Canfield, and Brett (Judy Shaffer) Hartman of Canfield, with whom he shared his home; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Robert L. Hartman of Canfield and many nieces and nephews.

His beloved wife of 62 years, Edna Ague Hartman, whom he married in June 22,1951, passed away January 28, 2013.

Besides his parents and wife, Raymond was preceded in death by seven sisters, Esther Wilson, Helen Ladigo, Irene Hartman, Elanore Hartman, Hazel Athey, Mary Louise Williams, and Thelma Brickley; two brothers, Harold J. Hartman, and William R. Hartman Jr.; a grandson, Aaron Hartman, and a great grandson, Marshall Hartman.

He will be forever remembered for his kind heart, and his unwavering spirit.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in the chapel at Green Haven Memorial Gardens 3495 S. Canfield Niles Rd., Canfield, OH 44406 where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow and Raymond will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Edna.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
