YOUNGSTOWN - Paula A. German, 71, of the city’s west side, passed away Friday morning, May 22, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Paula was born Oct. 12, 1954, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Jeanette Price Kovachik, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1973 graduate of Chaney High School and devoted her life to caring for her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Paula found her greatest joy in the moments spent with those she loved most. She cherished time spent with her family and grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to her life.
Paula enjoyed her morning coffee, preparing meals for her family, working word search puzzles, watching and feeding the birds, sitting on the porch, decorating her home, spending time outdoors, shopping, neighborhood walks, car rides and keeping up with her favorite soap operas. An avid reader of magazines, she also had a creative spirit and enjoyed writing poetry. Paula was especially known for her thoughtfulness and kindness, taking the time to handwrite and mail heartfelt cards to family and friends. Each month, she made it a point to remember birthdays and holidays, ensuring her loved ones felt remembered and cherished. This simple but meaningful tradition reflected the kindness and caring she showed in her everyday life.
Paula leaves to forever cherish her memory her husband of nearly 38 years, Michael German, whom she married Aug. 31, 1988; her three children, Angela (Robert) Kearns of Canfield, Cory German of Youngstown and Jayla German of Youngstown; her grandchildren, Aiden, Pierce and Rose Kearns; her sister, Linda Kovachik of Youngstown; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Paula was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Howells, and John J. “J.J” Kovachik; and her sisters, Janet Klein and Peggy Grachanin.
Paula will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family takes comfort in knowing that Paula’s love, kindness, and spirit will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
