MCDONALD - Nina D. Pastore, 88, passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, Feb. 24, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Nina was born Feb. 10, 1938, in Bugnara, L’Aquila, Italy, a daughter of the late Umberto and Edele Di Giacomo. She came to the United States and the Youngstown area as a young child, carrying with her the strong values of faith, family and perseverance that would define her life.
She dedicated 39 years of service to the General Electric Austintown Coil Plant before retiring,
Nina was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald.
She greatly enjoyed exercising and, in her younger years, could often be seen jogging throughout the streets of McDonald. In later years, she became affectionately known as “the lady who walks,” as she faithfully walked through her neighborhood each day — often logging nearly 10 miles — inspiring many with her determination and vitality.
Nina also expressed her love through cooking and baking. She was especially known for making pizzelles and waffle cookies, and her pepper and egg sandwiches were a favorite among family and friends. Above all else, Nina treasured the time she spent with her family, who were the center of her world.
Nina leaves to forever cherish her memory her two sons, Thomas (Carla) Pastore of Liberty Township and Joe (Toni) Pastore of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Alex Pastore, Sky Pastore, Gabrielle (JR) Rivera, Lauren (Dan) Calai and Ryan (Sophia) Lee; nine great grandchildren; and her sister, Naida Thomas of Boardman.
In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by her three sisters, LaLene Giansante, Tillie Buonavolanta and Connie Cercone; and her brother, Mario Di Giacomo.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.
