Myron R. Shaffer Jr.

YOUNGSTOWN - Myron R. Shaffer, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, May 31, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Myron was born April 4, 1943, in Youngstown, a son of the late Myron and Evelyn Myers Shaffer, and remained a lifelong area resident.

He worked for Ohio Leather Works, U.S. Steel and General Motors Lordstown, from where he retired in 2001 after many years of dedicated service.

Myron was a member of the former Four Mile Run Christian Church. He was a devoted family man who found great joy in life’s simple pleasures and the people he loved most.

He enjoyed traveling with his family, especially trips to Camp Lejeune, and loved visiting casinos across the country with his wife. He also looked forward to breakfast outings with his retiree buddies and spending time driving his golf cart around the neighborhood, visiting with friends and neighbors.

A passionate collector, Myron enjoyed antique tractors, steam engines and hit-and-miss engines, which he proudly displayed at the Canfield Fair for many years. He could often be found sitting on his porch each morning with a cup of coffee in hand, feeding cookies to the squirrels that faithfully stopped by each day for their treats.

Above all, Myron treasured the time he spent with his family.

Myron leaves to forever cherish his memory his wife of 64 years. Shirley Gettman Shaffer, whom he married Oct. 26, 1961; his daughter, Heidi (Bruce) Frankford; four sons, Tim (Leilani) Shaffer, Dan (Laurie) Shaffer, Scott (Mary) Shaffer and Myron “Buddy” Shaffer; 11 grandchildren, Ronnie (Taylor), Shiana (Daniel), Jeffrey (Ivette), Daniel, Joshua, Nathan, Noah, Lucas, Gavin, Alexis and Cameron; six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Annie, Grace Ann, Thomas, Cristian and Carson; and many extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Myron was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Stephen; and his sister, Beverly Romeo.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.

Private interment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown.
