Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN - Millicent B. "Millie" Bernat, 87, of the city's west side, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, Sept. 12, 2015, at her home with her family by her side.

Millicent was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Bristol, England, a daughter of the late Reginald and Jacqueline James Pugh, and came to America and to Youngstown as a "war bride" in 1946.

She was a loving and beloved wife, mother, and homemaker who dedicated her adult life to raising and caring for her large family.

Millie was a member of the British Wives Overseas Club, the Woman's Auxiliary of the Medical Society, and enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and gardening.

Her beloved husband of 56 years, Dr. Donald R. Bernat, whom she married June 26, 1946, passed away Feb. 25, 2003.

Millie leaves five sons, Arnold J. (Raida) Bernat of Atlanta, Donald R. Bernat Jr. of Youngstown, David M. (Kathleen) Bernat of Canfield, Peter E. (Donna) Bernat of Alliance, and Robert E. (Mary Kay) Bernat of Canfield; three daughters, Cheryl L. Durkin, with whom she shared her home, Susan L. (James) Mickler of Struthers, and Christine E. O'Hara of Austintown; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Parkinson of State College, Pa., and Joan Pugh and Diana Howell, both of England; a brother, Roy Pugh of England; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, including Darren Pugh, a great-nephew who is very close to her family.

Besides her husband, several brothers and sisters are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., TUESDAY, Sept. 15, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m.

Interment will take place at a later date at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman.

Mrs. Bernat's family requests that memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Assistance and Referral Network, 4214 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
