Michael A. Ensign

YOUNGSTOWN - Michael Alton Ensign, 56, passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, Aug. 3, 2026 of heart failure due to complications from diabetes.

Michael was born June 5, 1970, in Youngstown, the beloved son of Robert A. and Karin W. Ensign .

He was a 1989 graduate of Jackson-Milton High School and was a lifelong Mahoning County resident, having lived in North Jackson, Austintown and Youngstown.

Michael held various occupations throughout his life but especially enjoyed working alongside his father on out-of-town construction projects. He cherished the opportunity to travel and work with the crew his father managed.

Mike was known for his love of conversation with friends and family. He was quick to laugh and always had tons of questions for any visitors or guests at the Ensign home. He loved to ride his bike through Mill Creek Park for hours before chronic medical conditions eventually kept him from doing so. He was a video game fan and enjoyed playing group games and talking with his extended family and lifelong family friends. He absolutely loved good food and his family had many incredible cooks, especially his mother’s cooking which was legendary throughout the family.

Michael leaves to forever cherish his memory his mother, Karin W. Ensign of Austintown; his younger sister, Erika (Scott) Hinkle of North Jackson; his nephew, Devin; his older brother, Robert W. Ensign of Newark; his godfather and uncle, David (Tanya Meeks-Ensign) Ensign; his cousins, Michelle Cope and Deny and Judy Keslar; and a large group of cousins, extended family members and lifelong family friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Ensign; his paternal grandparents, Wilbur Dean and Betty Jane Ensign of Canfield; his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth “Oma” Sadinsky of Youngstown; and his paternal uncles, Russell Lee Ensign and Timothy Dean Ensign.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.

A private committal service will take place Friday at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown.
