McDONALD - Melva Temnick, 78, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Feb. 21, 2016, at Briarfield at Ashley Circle in Austintown, following an extended illness.
Melva was born Nov. 8, 1937, in North Jackson, a daughter of the late Daniel and Pauline Mateka Powroznyk. She grew up on her family's farm in North Jackson and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Temnick was a graduate of Jackson-Milton High School, and was a homemaker who dedicated her adult life to raising and caring for her family.
In her younger days during the 1950s, she worked as clerk for the Liberty Manufacturing Company, and she subsequently worked as a cashier for Nobel Shoes in the Austintown Plaza.
Melva was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown. She enjoyed her life growing up on the farm, country living, and she liked to ride horses.
Melva's husband of 40 years, Harry Temnick, whom she married Feb. 3, 1961, passed away June 7, 2001.
She leaves two sons, Harry Joseph "Butch" Temnick of McDonald and Richard Allen (Monica) Temnick of Austintown; four grandchildren, Hope Marie, Joshua Daniel, Tawni Nicole, and Collin Ryan; and two great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, two sisters, Emily Powroznyk and Eleanor Mihalik, and two brothers, John and Joseph Powroznyk, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a prayer service will take place at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the funeral home, and will continue at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church on North Belle Vista Avenue in Youngstown.
Interment will follow at the parish cemetery, where Melva will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
