Obituary

GIRARD - Maurice J. Shea, 91, passed away early Tuesday morning, Dec. 15, 2015, at Select Specialty Hospital Boardman.

Maurice was born July 1, 1924, in Youngstown, a son of the late Martin and Anne Carey Shea, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a graduate of Girard High School and joined the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, and became a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot. After his service in the war, Maurice earned a bachelor's degree in business from The Ohio State University and worked for Lake Shore Trucking, retiring in 1978 as a manager.

Mr. Shea was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard, and was also a member of the P-47 Thunderbolt Pilots Association, the American Legion, and the VFW, Post No. 147.

Maurice was very generous with his time and was the caretaker and guardian of his family, someone that could be counted upon when needed. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves two nieces, Laura R. Shea (husband Bryan Mosora) of Oil City, Pa. and Kathleen Shea of Spring Hill, Fla.; a nephew, Michael Shea of Spring Hill; and two great-nephews, Ryan and Matthew Shea Mosora.

Two brothers, Donald and William T. Shea, and a sister, Nancy Shea Leatherman, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, at Kinnick Funeral Home, McClurkin Memorial Chapel, 222 S. State St, Girard.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, at the funeral home, and will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church on Main Street in Girard.

Interment will take place at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.
