YOUNGSTOWN - Maryvel Vera, 60, of the city's west side, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 25, 2024, at Hospice House.

Maryvel was born January 16, 1964, in Chicago, IL., a daughter of Eladio Vera and Gladys Pagan Rodriguez. She spent her early years in Chicago before moving to Youngstown, where she resided for the last 30 years.

Maryvel was remarkably artistic, and greatly enjoyed crocheting beautiful hats and delicate flowers or sketching intricate drawings. She also liked to buy and wear all styles and colors of Crocs and accessorize them with her favorite Jibbitz charms.  Her garden was a testament to her love of nature, brimming with vibrant flowers and resilient cacti that she tenderly cared for. The outdoors was her sanctuary, where she found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

A true connoisseur of life's small luxuries, Maryvel delighted in drinking coffee, listening to a wide range of music, dancing and watching a television show or movie. Collecting memorabilia was another hobby close to her heart; her home was adorned with cherished items featuring Betty Boop, Baby Yoda, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Maryvel's kindness and generosity were boundless. She was a lady with a big heart, always putting others before herself. Her willingness to lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, or simply sit with someone in need of company made her a cherished friend and confidante to many.

Maryvel is survived by her mother, Gladys Rodriguez, with whom she made her home; her two daughters, Tania Mendoza of Kentucky and Tatiana Vera of Chicago; her granddaughter, Gwendolyn; siblings, Linda Vera, Noel Vera and Ivy Vera; several nieces and nephews including Chantele Vera and Jorge Cardinas and many extended family members.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maryvel was preceded in death by her father, Eladio Vera.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
