YOUNGSTOWN - Mary C. Moon, 80, of Youngstown's west side, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from complications of emphysema.

Mary was born Aug. 25, 1944, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Andrew F. Evan and Helen Kurilla Evan, and was a lifelong area resident.

A 1962 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, Mary went on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State University. She taught in the Diocese of Youngstown for 15 years, serving at Sacred Heart, St. Stanislaus and St. Dominic schools. Later, she worked as a team leader at Value City Department Store in Boardman until its closing in the early 2000s.

Mary was a member of St. Brendan Church and active in its altar and rosary society. She also volunteered with Goodwill's Radio Reading Service, reading for visually impaired audiences across Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Mary found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She had a lifelong love for animals and, in her younger years, enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles with her husband.

Mary is survived by her son, Michael Scott (Darlene) Moon of Boardman; her daughter, Theresa Ann Moon, with whom she resided; her three grandchildren, Sydney, Sarah, and Samantha Moon; her brother, Andrew (Mary Jane) Evan of Farmdale; and many extended family members.

Her husband of 50 years, Scott R. Moon Jr., whom she married May 8, 1965, died May 9, 2015.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 31, 2025, at St. Brendan Church 2800 Oakwood Ave., Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon.

Mary's family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley 945 Boardman-Canfield Rd UNIT 12, Youngstown, OH 44512.
