Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN - Mary Ann Mancini, 83, passed away peacefully, Monday evening, February 24, 2025, at The Inn at Christine Valley.

Mary Ann was born October 10, 1941, in Hubbard, a daughter of the late Joseph Chovan Sr., and Mary Lucas Chovan and lived in the area for most of her life.

She attended Roosevelt Elementary School and Lincoln Middle School before graduating from East High School in 1959. She furthered her education at The Ohio Beauty School of Cosmetology, earning her certification in 1960.

Following her education, Mary Ann proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years. She was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, where she worked as a receptionist in the base hospital's x-ray department.

After her military service, Mary Ann built a dedicated 30-year career at the Youngstown Post Office, retiring in 1996. She was an active member of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Chapter 14, as well as Union #443 and the Jednota Slovak Association.

On February 5, 1977, she married Herb Mancini. Together, they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on January 28, 2024. They enjoyed annual trips to Las Vegas and Florida and Mary Ann enjoyed accompanying Herb, a professional baseball scout for the MLSB, across Ohio while scouting prospective baseball players. Mary Ann also found great joy in the outdoors through her love of gardening.

Mary Ann is survived by her three stepdaughters, Cheryl (Mike) Borovitcky, Christine (Don) Yankle and Carla (Jeff) Chahine; seven grandchildren, Michelle, and Nicole Borovitcky, Donny and Jaclyn Yankle, Jeffrey, Joelle, and Jillian Chahine; her nieces and nephews, Karen, Debbie, Anastasia, Catherine, William Jr., Stephen, and Andrew; and Patricia Hnatiw, who was very special to her.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers William Chovan Sr., and Joseph Chovan Jr.

Private services will be held at Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
