YOUNGSTOWN — Mary M. Komsa, 100, of the city’s west side, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2026, in the comfort of her home after a long and fulfilling life.
Mary was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Anna Serenko Sefcik, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a graduate of Chaney High School and worked for Weatherbee Coats, where she made coats for servicemen during World War II. She later worked at the GM McKelvey Department Store for two years before dedicating her life to raising and caring for her family.
Mary was a longtime member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church. She was very proud of her Slovak heritage and was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and working word-search puzzles. Most of all, Mary treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mary leaves to forever cherish her memory her three daughters, Jean Delsignore of Youngstown, Jackie Komsa of Youngstown and Bonnie (James) Hamrock of Poland; three grandchildren, Robert (Tracy) Delsignore, Jenna (Larry) Sammartino and Jaclyn Hamrock; one great-granddaughter, Giuliana Sammartino; and many extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joseph P. Komsa, whom she married Sept. 27, 1947, and who passed away Dec. 13, 2004; three brothers, John, Michael and Joseph Sefcik; and five sisters, Veronica Dlwgosh, Helen Pinter, Agnes Kozlowski, Ann Patrick and infant Emelia Komsa.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Walter Passarello for the exceptional care and compassion he provided to Mary over the years, and to Carol, whose dedicated care, kindness and friendship brought great comfort to Mary and her family.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St. Youngstown.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Mary will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Mary’s memory to Hospice of the Valley 979 Tibbetts Wick Rd. Suite A, Girard, Ohio 44420.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
