Mary Susan Kommel, 67, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, Oct, 28, 2016, at Hospice House, following a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mary, who was known to all as "Sue," was born July 6, 1949, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Andrew and Margaret Rankin. She graduated high school in Berea in 1967, and lived in Youngstown since 1968.
Sue worked as a jeweler for King's Jewelry in Youngstown and in Niles.
She enjoyed traveling the Western United States, and found great joy visiting the Grand Canyon.
Sue was a longtime member of the St. Joseph Church choir in Austintown and her family is joyed to know her voice will be praising God for eternity.
She is survived by sisters Catherine Rankin of Columbus and Margaret "Peggy" (Ken) Koch of Oakwood, Wisc.; her son, Kelly (Stephanie) Kommel; three grandchildren, Andrew, Sydney, and Jillian, whom she loved dearly; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Sue's family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512, for the kindness shown and care given during Sue's final days.
