Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN - Mary A. Knapik, 98, formerly of Silliman Street on the city's west side, passed away early Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, 2015, at Hampton Woods in Poland.

Mary was born June 9, 1917, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late George and Mary Jarabinec Knapik, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a graduate of Holy Name School and of Chaney High School. She subsequently worked for 17 years in the accounting department at the Stambaugh-Thompson Company, and retired from the Ohio Works at U.S. Steel after 27 years of service with the company.

Mary was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown, where she was a member of the church choir. She was a also member of the U.S. Steel Ladies' Golf League.

Mary is survived by many nieces and nephews, including her caregivers, Paul C. (Anissa) Knapik of Boardman, Raymond Knapik of Canfield, and great-nephew, Ryan.

Six brothers, George, Joseph, Michael, John, Andrew, and Paul Knapik, and a sister, Helen Maskulka, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m., SATURDAY, Oct. 10, at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 613 N. Lakeview Ave., Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Mary's family thanks the staff and nurses at Hampton Woods for the kindness shown and care given to Mary during her stay there.
